Astra's row comes from OpenAI's own documentation: the release entry, the model reference and the public price table. Sol's row is empty for one reason — nothing about GPT-6 Sol has been announced by OpenAI, including whether the name will be used at all.
The nine-day gap between Astra's API changelog entry (September 3) and APIMaster's availability announcement (September 5) is a reminder that these are different milestones. Official release, provider access and marketplace listing move on separate schedules, and only the first is documented.

The car-badge pair is where the widely repeated "about six times faster" figure comes from. It is one prompt, run once, with no control for provider load, queueing, routing or sampling settings — a wall-clock gap that size can come from capacity as easily as from the model. Release timing
Sam Altman described the week of September 15 as a major shipping week followed by several DevDay launches, and Tibo Sottiaux independently reinforced the volume of near-term releases. Neither named a Sol model.
September 17 circulated as a launch date on Thursday of that week; September 29, the confirmed DevDay date in San Francisco, is the other recurring guess. OpenAI has not tied GPT-6 Sol to either. The release tracker keeps the full dated record of these signals.
What the reports agree on
Reading them together, one profile repeats: a model that gives up some hard-reasoning ceiling in exchange for materially better latency and unit cost, sitting below the flagship. That is exactly how OpenAI already positions Sol inside the GPT-5.6 family, which is why the name is credible in the first place — and also why the reports are easy to believe. It remains a hypothesis until a model ID and a price table exist.
One reported expectation is worth noting separately: at least one developer skipped past Sol and said they were waiting for a GPT-6 Luna as their daily driver. That is a naming extrapolation, not a leak, but it shows how quickly the tier scheme is being assumed to carry forward.
