GPT Image 2 starts at $0.025 per 1K image, $0.03 at 2K and $0.06 at 4K on APIMaster. Open the gpt-image-2 card to choose the resolution and route. For 1,000 images, those lowest quotes imply $25, $30 or $60, before retries and any additional charges.
Checked 2026-11-03. Prices are USD per image. Only active, non-exclusive public routes are counted. The live marketplace card is authoritative. The following original prices are APIMaster market-card reference prices, not a universal official OpenAI bill for the same quality.

GPT Image 2 API pricing at 1K, 2K and 4K
Select the output tier before comparing suppliers. A low-quality square estimate from one supplier is not interchangeable with a high-quality 4K quote from another. Resolution, quality, aspect ratio, reference-image input and supported parameters all matter.
| Model | 1K from | 2K from | 4K from | 1,000 images: 1K / 2K / 4K |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| GPT Image 2 | $0.025 | $0.03 | $0.06 | $25 / $30 / $60 |
| GPT Image 2.5 Flare | $0.0375 | $0.06 | $0.12 | $37.50 / $60 / $120 |
| GPT Image 2.5 Sunburst | $0.0375 | $0.06 | $0.12 | $37.50 / $60 / $120 |
The cheapest 2.5 route lists 1K only. Its $0.0375 starting price does not establish a 2K or 4K offer. Those tiers use the lowest quote among routes that explicitly list the requested tier. All three are separate model IDs; switching to GPT Image 2 to save money changes the model.
For GPT Image 2, moving from the lowest 2K quote to 4K doubles the per-image budget. If your output is a small web thumbnail, test whether the larger tier creates value before paying for it. For a poster or a detail-heavy asset, evaluate the real exported image at its intended viewing size.
Is GPT Image 2 really 90% cheaper than OpenAI?
The verified 90% figure here is against APIMaster's $0.25 / $0.30 / $0.60 market-card reference, not an official same-quality comparison. OpenAI's image pricing documentation uses token accounting and directs developers to image cost estimates. There is no single official flat price covering every 1K, 2K and 4K request, quality setting and edit.
| GPT Image 2 tier | Market reference / image | APIMaster from | Saving against market reference |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1K | $0.25 | $0.025 | 90% cheaper |
| 2K | $0.30 | $0.03 | 90% cheaper |
| 4K | $0.60 | $0.06 | 90% cheaper |
For a direct-provider comparison, fix the exact model, quality, aspect ratio and reference images; calculate input and output charges from returned usage. The market-reference saving above should not be used as the answer to that different calculation. For 2.5's official token rates and editing background, see the Flare and Sunburst guide.
How to get a cheap GPT Image API key
- Open GPT Image 2, choose a route and inspect supported resolution and request fields.
- Register on APIMaster and fund an API wallet rather than buying an image-app subscription.
- Create an API key, then set
APIMASTER_API_KEYin your environment. - Send one image, inspect its actual dimensions and quality, and compare the usage log with the selected quote.
The example below uses the route-specific aspect-ratio and resolution fields for 2K generation. Confirm that the route supports this profile; pixel dimensions alone do not substitute for the explicit billing tier:
curl --fail-with-body --max-time 600 "https://apimaster.ai/v1/images/generations/async" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $APIMASTER_API_KEY" \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" \
-d '{
"model": "gpt-image-2",
"prompt": "A lavender teapot on a pale mint background, clean product photography",
"size": "16:9",
"resolution": "2k",
"quality": "high",
"n": 1
}'
Retain the returned task ID. Query it with the same model:
curl --fail-with-body "https://apimaster.ai/v1/tasks/TASK_ID?model=gpt-image-2" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $APIMASTER_API_KEY"
Wait for a successful completion state and inspect data.result.images. A submission response or HTTP 200 alone is not proof of a completed image. An uncertain timeout is not a reason to immediately submit another paid generation: recover the original task first. The async path may wait for a synchronous upstream before returning its task ID.
How to avoid spending more on retries and edits
For reference editing, upload the actual image to /images/edits or /images/edits/async; naming a file inside the prompt does not attach it. Do not pass unverified optional fields such as output_format to a route that does not support them. See the generation and editing API examples.
Measure cost per accepted asset. If an asset takes three paid attempts, a $0.025 starting quote means $0.075 in generation attempts before any other charges. Check exact text, retained logos, reference identity and output dimensions, not just whether an image URL was returned. Compare Nano Banana prices if switching families is acceptable for your task.
FAQ
What is the cheapest GPT Image 2 API price here?
At the 2026-11-03 check, APIMaster lists GPT Image 2 from $0.025 at 1K, $0.03 at 2K and $0.06 at 4K per image. The live card determines current availability and pricing.
How much do 1,000 GPT Image 2 images cost?
At those quotes, $25 for 1K, $30 for 2K or $60 for 4K. These are arithmetic budgets for 1,000 outputs, excluding retries and additional charges.
Is the advertised 90% discount against official OpenAI pricing?
No. It is against the APIMaster market-card reference for the same resolution. An official comparison requires matching quality, dimensions, inputs and token usage.
Can I get GPT Image 2.5 for the same price?
Flare and Sunburst start at $0.0375 for 1K. Their lowest 2K and 4K quotes are $0.06 and $0.12. The 1K-only route does not establish higher-resolution availability.
Does a ChatGPT subscription include this API?
No. ChatGPT subscriptions and API billing are separate. APIMaster requests use your APIMaster API key and wallet.
How do I start generating images?
Register, create an API key, use https://apimaster.ai/v1, and select gpt-image-2. Confirm the route's resolution and quality support before your first request.
